M. Allam Baaheth, a member of our Development Council, plays the new Steinway piano that he led the fundraising effort for.
The centerpiece of the newly-renovated USA Children’s & Women’s Hospital lobby is its beautiful Steinway grand piano. Now the Hospital is looking for volunteer pianists to provide music during the day to enhance the visitor and patient experience.
“Entering a hospital can be an anxiety-producing experience for some people,” says Rebekah Warren, volunteer service specialist.  “Music creates a calm, soothing environment and just makes it more inviting. This is a way to engage the community, and for volunteers to give the gift of music to patients and their families.”
The Hospital is seeking pianists daily between the hours of 8 a.m. - 8:30 p.m. for shifts of up to two hours.  Volunteers who sign up to play the piano must have a musical background, and experienced pianists are preferred.
If you are interested in volunteering, fill out the pianist volunteer application. For more information, call Volunteer Services at (251) 415-1123.
The Steinway piano, from Broussard’s Piano Gallery of Mobile, was the result of a fundraising effort led by Dr. M. Allam Baaheth, principal scientist and CEO of Baheth R & D Laboratories, Ltd.  The piano will also be used for live performances and recreational therapy in the hospital's Mapp Child and Family Life Program.
