Detronia Carson has joined the staff of the USA Medical Center as a patient relations coordinator.
“To ease somebody’s worries and help clear the air on something they weren’t sure about” is a great feeling, she said, as is helping patients.
“It’s important that we make the patients and their families the top priority. Making sure they are a part of their care plan and ensuring they completely understand what’s to come.”
In addition to serving as a liaison between patients and hospital staff to resolve communication issues, patient care coordinators review and handle patient satisfaction surveys, she said. “Our goal is to help make the patient’s experience the best experience possible.”
Joining the USA Medical Center staff in mid-January, Carson came from eight years of working with youth — first at the Learning Tree and then at the Independent Living Center of Mobile — and she is enjoying the broader population being served at the hospital.
A Mobile native, Carson is a graduate of Shaw High School and Auburn University. She earned a master’s degree from South University in Georgia.
The University of South Alabama Medical Center offers patient-centered care to the central Gulf Coast with unique services including Mobile’s only Level I Trauma Center and Regional Burn Center, plus Centers of Excellence in stroke care and cardiovascular diseases, and a wide range of acute care services.
