USA Medical Center volunteer Mary Q. Stevenson hangs an ornament on the tree during the Dedication of Lights Ceremony in December 2014, an event which received statewide recognition for the Auxiliary.
The USA Medical Center Auxiliary was recognized with several awards at the annual Alabama Hospital Association’s Volunteer Division Meeting recently held in Mobile.
The Auxiliary won second place in the yearbook competition for small auxiliaries.
The yearbook is an overview of the activities of the auxiliary during the year, from everyday duties to special events, and also includes its history.
The auxiliary was also recognized with a third place in the special events category for its annual Dedication of Lights. The community event in December features guest speakers and performers and is also known for its heartfelt ornament dedication. Ornaments are purchased in memory or honor of a loved one and are hung on the tree in the Medical Center lobby during the ceremony.
Director of Volunteer Services Claudnette McGrew said of the awards, “I’m proud that we were recognized. These programs are outstanding and the Dedication of Lights event is very dear to me. Our auxiliary is a small group, but they work hard year-round to do things that lift the spirits of both patients and visitors.”
