Jan. 6, 2015 - Living Well Alabama Classes Kick Off at USA Medical Center

The University of South Alabama Medical Center, in partnership with the Area Agency on Aging, recently hosted a free six-week health education program called Living Well Alabama. The program is designed for people with one or more chronic health conditions who want to practice healthier lifestyle choices and learn tools to help manage symptoms.

Participants in the program received tips on a variety of topics including healthy eating, communicating with your physician, using prescribed medication appropriately, managing pain and stress, and developing a long-term exercise plan. The six-week course ended on Dec. 8, but more are planned for the future.

She added that one appealing aspect of the program was that it allows you to modify your eating and exercise plan to fit your lifestyle and habits. “It’s not so strict that you get frustrated and give up.”

For another participant, the program was a nice surprise. “I didn’t know what I was getting into, but I’m glad I did this,” he said.

The next Living Well Alabama program will be in late February or early March. For more information on this free workshop, call Quality Management Secretary Sandra Anderson at (251) 471-7418.
