April 24, 2012 - Neonatal Reunion at USA Children's & Women's Hospital to Welcome Back "NICU Graduates"
MOBILE - The Hollis J. Wiseman Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at the University of South Alabama Children’s & Women’s Hospital will host USA’s 23rd NICU Reunion at the hospital’s Geri Moulton Children’s Park from 1-3 p.m., Sunday, May 20. All USA NICU “graduates” and their families are invited. “For decades, families from throughout the Gulf Coast region have returned to USA Children’s & Women’s Hospital to visit again with their NICU care team and other NICU families they came to know and love,” Owen Bailey, USA Children’s & Women’s Hospital administrator, said. “It’s a wonderful occasion for children, parents and our employees to come together and celebrate the gift of life.” The NICU graduates are babies who were born premature, underweight or ill, and were treated in the NICU. The Wiseman NICU at USA Children’s & Women’s Hospital is designated as a Level III NICU, providing the region’s most advanced care for premature and critically ill newborns. NICUs are classified by the level of care they are equipped and certified to provide. Level III NICUs such as that at USA Children’s & Women’s Hospital are equipped to provide comprehensive care to the sickest of newborns. Therefore, a large number of families have benefited from its specialized intensive care. Nearly 1,000 babies are admitted annually to the hospital’s NICU, with more than 20 percent of those infants brought from other hospitals by the USA Children’s & Women’s Hospital “Care For Babies” NICU transport vehicle. Light refreshments will be served and dress is casual, and there will be children’s games. Free parking will be available at the hospital. Families can also enjoy the park’s more than 50 life-size bronze sculptures depicting children and families. There is no admission charge.
