Throughout the month of January, a gallery showcasing 33 pieces of original artwork will be on display in the Mastin Professional Building in room 610 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Employees are encouraged to view the photographs and vote on their favorite pieces.
The photos – featuring a variety of nature and lifestyle pieces – were captured by Steven Bailey, a pharmacology research associate at the University of South Alabama College of Medicine.
Using medium format film and high-resolution digital cameras, Bailey said he enjoys taking photos of the South and of the more than 30 countries he has visited while presenting at scientific conferences. After printing, he mounts the photos in frames, which he often shapes and stains himself.
Bailey, who joined USA in 1981, said his scientific research focuses primarily on the advantages of the natural forms of folate over synthetic folic acid. “My most current project studies a new approach to minimizing the risks of birth defects such as spina bifida that takes advantage of special properties of one of the main forms of natural folate,” he said.
The art will be on display until Jan. 31, 2018, and Bailey encourages everyone to view his work and vote for their top three pieces in the showcase.
