MOBILE, Alabama – (August 21, 2013) – Ronald McDonald House Charities of Mobile and the University of South Alabama Children's & Women's Hospital will announce a new partnership that will expand Ronald McDonald House Charities' services to families with critically ill and injured children through the opening of two Ronald McDonald Family Rooms located inside the new hospital tower at USA Children's & Women's Hospital.

On Wednesday, August 28, at 1 p.m., a ribbon cutting celebration will be held at the hospital to mark the debut of the Ronald McDonald Family Rooms, which are scheduled to officially open in fall 2013. The ceremony will feature Ronald McDonald himself, as well as Ronald McDonald House Charities board, staff, McDonald’s owner-operators, USA Children's & Women's team members, USA administration and other guests.

“We are very excited to expand the reach of our mission to serve families of hospitalized children through our new Ronald McDonald Family Room program. We are so grateful to the University of South Alabama and Children’s & Women’s Hospital for this new partnership. Now in addition to the over 700 hundred families we serve each year through our Ronald McDonald House, we will serve thousands of families each year through the Ronald McDonald Family Rooms” said Paul Giardina, executive director of Ronald McDonald House Charities of Mobile.

The Ronald McDonald Family Rooms will serve as an extension of Ronald McDonald House Charities of Mobile, Alabama– a bit of “home” within the walls of USA Children’s and Women’s Hospital. Family Rooms will provide areas of peaceful respite within the hospital where families and caregivers can spend quiet time – engage in private conversations, reflection, or enjoy coffee and a snack while remaining merely steps away from their child’s bed.

"We are proud to open two new Ronald McDonald Family Rooms in our new expansion of USA Children's & Women's Hospital," said USA Children's & Women's Hospital Administrator Owen Bailey. "The Family Rooms will help support our local patient families during a difficult time and allow a place of comfort and normalcy for the parents of our patients. We are happy to have such a great partner, and neighbor, in Ronald McDonald House Charities."

The Ronald McDonald Family Rooms are located on the third and fourth floors of the new hospital tower and are equipped with a kitchenette stocked with snacks and Coca-Cola products, La-Z-Boy furniture, a television, private restroom, shower, laundry facilities and internet connection.
