Education is at the center of our mission to the medical community and to our patients. As a member of the University of South Alabama Health System, USA Medical Center plays a vital role in the education of physicians, nurses, therapists, technicians and many others. USA Medical Center employees can click here to access HealthStream for their online education.
Because of our access to information discovered by recent research, our patients are among the first to benefit from new treatments that have been proven effective.
We also encourage our patients to take advantage of the educational resources located here at the Medical Center. In particular, the Health Information Resource Center on the third floor provides a full range of information for patients and staff. For more information about the HIRC, please click here.
The Medical Center also offers support groups for families and others helping loved ones in their recovery efforts.
On the third Tuesday of each month, the University of South Alabama Regional Stroke Support Group meets at the USA Medical Center. Meetings are free and open to everyone and take place from 6 p.m.-7 p.m. in the USAMC's 3rd floor radiology classroom. Each meeting is highlighted with a guest speaker who discusses an aspect of stroke awareness, stroke prevention, and life after a stroke. The meetings are lively and informative and allow stroke victims and their caregivers an opportunity to network with others who have been affected by a stroke.
Reservations are requested and can be made by calling (251) 471-7671 or e-mailing email@example.com. USA Medical Center has achieved recognition as a Gold Plus Target Stroke Honor Roll Recipient from the American Heart Association for the level care they provide to their stroke patients. Visit the Stroke Center for more information.
USA Medical Center hosts a Diabetes Support Group coordinated by USA College of Nursing faculty Dr. Anita King and Emily Beaird from 2-3 p.m. in the 10th floor dining room. Meetings are scheduled for the fourth Tuesday of each month. For additional information, please call (251) 471-7944.
The Weight Loss Surgery Support Group also meets at the hospital on the first Thursday of each month. Generally, the group meets at two times, for convenience:
