USA Children's and Women's Hospital makes every effort to provide a safe, secure and healthy environment for our patients, faculty, employees and visitors. In doing so, we fully support and comply with all applicable laws and ordinances that govern non-smoking in the workplace. There is a designated smoking area for visitors outside of the cafeteria.
Parents or spouses are encouraged to stay with their hospitalized child or spouse. Siblings or children are permitted to visit on the general units. Parental/spousal visiting hours are not restricted. Hospital visiting hours are from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Family members or friends should visit during regular visiting hours. Due to the size of the patient rooms only four visitors - including parents - should visit at any one time. As space allows, two (2) parents may stay overnight in the patient room.
Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)
The PICU maintains an open visitation policy. Parents and families are encouraged to visit and spend time with their child. Only two visitors per patient are allowed in the unit at one time. After 8:30 p.m., only immediate family members are allowed to visit. Exceptions to this policy may only occur with end of life issues and requires Charge Nurse/ Nurse Manager and PICU Attending Physician permission.
Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
The NICU allows for parent visitation in the nurseries during designated times. Other family members and siblings may visit with a parent or guardian. Our intent is to make visitation as comfortable and beneficial as possible for the patients and family members. The NICU allows parents and designated visitors at anytime except during the following times: 6:30 a.m.-8 a.m., 3 p.m.-4 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.-8 p.m. The hospital visiting hours end at 8:30 p.m. Only parents and one other visitor are allowed to visit after 8:30 p.m.
Labor, Delivery, Recovery (LDR) Rooms
Family may visit in the LDR rooms as the patient's condition permits. Siblings or children are permitted to visit in the LDR rooms. Children must be accompanied by an adult who is not the patient's birthing coach/significant other. During shift change, emergency situations, or special procedures, visiting may be restricted.
If at any time visitors are disrupting the care or disturbing any patient, they will be asked to leave. These policies are designed to benefit the patient who is ill and in the hospital.
Visitors, who appear visibly ill themselves, will be requested not to visit in the hospital.
