WHO HE IS: Associate Professor of Complex General Surgical Oncology, USA Department of Surgery; USA Mitchell Cancer Institute
AREAS OF INTEREST: General surgical oncology including melanoma, breast, endocrine pathology and gastrointestinal malignancies
WORK HISTORY: Dr. Liles was born and raised in Birmingham. He spent his high school and college summers working in an operating room in Birmingham.
WHAT HE LIKES ABOUT TREATING PATIENTS: “I am driven by the opportunity to help someone whose life has just been turned upside down by a cancer diagnosis. The chance to help, and hopefully cure, these people is an honor that I take much pride in and is the reason that I do what I do.”
EDUCATION: Dr. Liles earned a bachelor of science in Biology from Washington and Lee University and graduated from the University of Alabama School of Medicine. He completed his general surgery training at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and his surgical oncology training at the University of Texas - MD Anderson Cancer Center.
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES: “I enjoy watching college football, fishing, and spending time with my wife and our 1-year-old son.”
