Mobile, Ala. – The 8th Annual GO Run 5K and Fun Run raised $82,000 for GYN cancer research at the University of South Alabama Mitchell Cancer Institute, with more than 1,100 runners and supporters participating. It was held Sept. 19 on the USA campus.
The GO Run is held each September during Gynecologic Cancer Awareness Month, which draws attention to cancers of the female reproductive system. The family event included prizes, music, vendor booths, skin cancer screenings, food and children’s activities.
Lauren Scott, 23, finished first in the 5K with a time of 18:32. The Buford, Ga., native is a University of Alabama at Birmingham graduate in broadcasting and sports marketing.

The USA Mitchell Cancer Institute has the only comprehensive Women’s Cancer Program in the upper Gulf Coast region, including cancer treatment, clinical trials, and basic and translational research.
