October 30, 2014 - AL.com/Press Register -- Harris Burnette was facing a crisis. Already on dialysis, he got a sobering diagnosis. It was lymphoma, cancer of the lymph nodes, and his prognosis was uncertain. To the 68-year-old, it was an overwhelming perfect storm of health issues.
Fortunately, standing between him and total despair was his lay patient navigator, Nwamaka (pronounced Amaka) Ikefuna. One of four lay navigators at Mitchell Cancer Institute, Ikefuna was there to provide support and accompany him on his cancer journey.
