MOBILE, Alabama (8/1/18) -- Dr. Teja Poosarla has joined MCI as a medical oncologist and assistant professor of interdisciplinary clinical oncology. Her practice will focus on breast cancer.
Poosarla, a 2012 graduate of the University of South Alabama College of Medicine, completed an internal medicine internship and residency at Ochsner Clinic Foundation in New Orleans and a fellowship in the Division of Hematology/Oncology at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Miss.
She is a member of the Society of Hematologic Oncology and the Hemostasis, the Thrombosis Research Society, the American Society of Hematology and the American Society of Clinical Oncology.
“Dr. Poosarla brings expertise in novel targeted treatments for cancer patients to USA Mitchell Cancer Institute,” said Dr. Art Frankel, chief of Medical Oncology and the Arlene and Mayer Mitchell Chair in Medical Oncology. “We anticipate significant strides in our breast cancer team with her. With her help, we should rapidly achieve regional Breast Cancer Center of Excellence status.”
Poosarla said she was drawn to oncology because of a family experience. During her residency at Ochsner, her grandmother was diagnosed with breast cancer. “I felt like the physician was there for us – not just the patient but also the family,” she said. “I just want to be there for my patients as well.”
