Mobile native Charles Mitchell says he’s about as close as anyone can get to being a cornerstone of MCI. Mitchell, the MCI Employee of the Month for June, began his journey with USA Mitchell Cancer Institute in spring 2008, a few months before it opened on Springhill Avenue. “I saw most of the building being constructed from my job at USA Children’s & Women’s Hospital,” he said.
Those who nominated the maintenance mechanic for the honor commented that “no one is more dedicated to the success of MCI. We owe him a great debt of gratitude for all he does behind the scenes.” He was also praised for his knowledge about the building and his willingness to go the extra mile.
Mitchell said he feels rewarded when he sees the change in patients’ facial expressions that occur when they are met with a smile. “I have personally known several patients here at MCI, and they all comment on how they are treated as they enter, wait and exit our facility,” he said. “This is the impression that I hope I have helped to present with any interactions that I may have had with patients and their families.”
