FAIRHOPE, Alabama (7/02/18) -- On Thursday, July 5, the USA Mitchell Cancer Institute Kilborn Clinic is celebrating one year of being open to the public and providing advanced cancer care to Fairhope and the surrounding communities.

Finan describes the anniversary as a celebration of hope. “The Kilborn Clinic will bring hope to patients and families in Fairhope and throughout Baldwin County for generations to come, delivering cutting-edge cancer care near home in a warm and caring environment surrounded by our MCI family,” Finan said.

Named for attorney and philanthropist Vince Kilborn, the Kilborn Clinic is one of three MCI locations in south Alabama along with MCI headquarters in Mobile and a treatment center at Monroe County Hospital in Monroeville.

The Kilborn Clinic, which replaced a previous MCI location at Thomas Hospital, houses nine exam rooms and 16 chemotherapy infusion recliners as well as a state-of-the-art radiation area completed in February 2018. Thanks to the addition of this department, patients are now able to receive a full range of cancer treatment and services.

Kilborn, who donated $1.5 million to support the center, stated, “The Kilborn Clinic, is one year old; yet it has already provided life-saving and life-extending treatment to hundreds of patients in south Alabama and neighboring communities.”

In fact, since its opening in 2017, the Kilborn Clinic has provided nearly 3,400 chemotherapy treatments, more than 300 radiation treatments, and approximately 8,000 patient visits. “I am fortunate and blessed to be a part of our war on this dread disease,” Kilborn said.

Additionally, the clinic hosted an inaugural fund-raising event called Hope Grows Here this past April, which featured locally sourced food and live music. It drew a crowd of about 150 to support clinical operations.

As for the future of Kilborn, Dr. Finan said, “One year is the beginning. We are in a marathon, not a sprint.”
