The 6th Annual Hope Cup Golf Tournament will be held Thursday, May 24, at Steelwood Country Club in Loxley. All proceeds from the tournament, presented by Springhill Toyota, will be used to fight melanoma and other skin cancers.
The 2017 tournament, organized by USA Mitchell Cancer Institute, raised almost $50,000 for the MCI Melanoma and Skin Cancer Endowment.
The Hope Cup is held annually during May, which is Skin Cancer Awareness Month. Melanoma accounts for only 1 percent of all skin cancer cases, but is the most lethal, causing the greatest number of skin cancer deaths.
The golf tournament is a four-person scramble with putting contests, prizes on every hole and a survivor hole. Registration is at 10:30 a.m., with a golfer’s lunch at 11 a.m. and shotgun start at noon. An awards presentation will follow the tournament.
