MOBILE, Ala. -- USA Health Marketing and Communications staffers were recognized with four statewide public relations awards, including a Medallion Award for the successful promotion of a 2017 National Cancer Survivors Day event entitled Hope Grows Here. The awards were presented during the Public Relations Council of Alabama’s annual conference in Huntsville on April 16, 2018.
The Medallion Award was presented to USA Mitchell Cancer Institute Assistant Director Carol McPhail and Social Media Specialist Lena Rieckenberg. Awards of Merit went to USA Hospitals Marketing and Communications Director Jennifer Ekman and Assistant Director Casandra Andrews for “Nicolas Cage Comes to Visit,” USAMC Walking Path Launch and Crawfish for a Cause.
Sponsored by the Mitchell Cancer Institute, the National Cancer Survivors Day event drew hundreds to the Mobile Convention Center on June 4, 2017. The free event featured talks by survivors and caregivers as well as special dance performances. Cancer survivors from throughout the community also decorated a special Tree of Hope with personal messages of encouragement.
At the PRCA conference in Huntsville, professional public relations practitioners and students from across the state attended sessions on branding, storytelling and other topics. A total of 52 professional awards were presented, including a Medallion and Best of Show to Mobile County Public Schools Office of Communication and Director Rena Philips for the campaign Shepherd’s Pie.
The Public Relations Council of Alabama promotes professional and ethical practice in public relations, develops the potential of current and future practitioners, builds a community of professionals and advocates for the profession through effective member action and volunteer leadership.
