MOBILE, Alabama (10/30/17) – The 9th Annual Celebrate Hope will incorporate a new twist on MCI’s signature gala – empowering guests to have a say in how the proceeds are spent.
“Attendees will select the designation for funds by casting a vote for one of four proposed research projects,” says MCI Director of Development Kelly McCarron. “The winner will be announced at the conclusion of the evening.”
Celebrate Hope is set for 6 to 10 p.m. on Thursday, November 16, 2017, at MCI, located at 1660 Springhill Avenue in Mobile. The event, sponsored by Wind Creek Casino & Hotel Atmore, will feature specialty dishes by local chefs, craft beers and wines, and entertainment by the Troy Ladd Band.
Proposals for consideration this year would fund instruments used in DNA repair, drug discovery, advanced imaging and cell sorting. Videos explaining the proposals can be found by clicking on the above links or visiting the Mitchell Cancer Facebook page.
Over the past eight years, Celebrate Hope has raised more than $2.5 million to support MCI’s basic and translational cancer research. The proceeds have been invested in specialized equipment used in cancer research ranging from an x-ray diffraction device to a confocal microscope.
“MCI stands out among cancer institutes its size for the level and quality of research equipment in the labs,” said MCI Director Dr. Michael A. Finan. “Staying on the cutting edge allows us to recruit the best and brightest scientists in cancer research.”
Tickets for the gala are $175 and may be purchased online at usamci.com/celebratehope.
