The 8th Annual Celebrate Hope gala, which supports local cancer research, will feature 12 area chefs and their specialty dishes on November 17 at USA Mitchell Cancer Institute in Mobile.
Guests will enjoy food, wine and craft beer pairings, along with live entertainment provided by the Escalade Show and Dance Band. The event takes place from 6-10 p.m. on the MCI grounds at 1660 Springhill Avenue in Mobile.
“The MCI campus is transformed into an amazing venue to celebrate hope for survivors and what we’re doing for research,” said Celebrate Hope chair Laureen Lynn, who is an 18-year breast cancer survivor. “The exciting thing is that actual cancer research is going on right here in Mobile.”
Over the past seven years, Celebrate Hope has raised $2.2 million to support basic cancer research and technology at MCI. Revenues from the 2015 gala helped to purchase an x-ray generator that enables scientists who specialize in crystallography to visualize the structure of tiny proteins related to cancer. Visualizing the proteins enables them to develop new compounds for treatment.
“Cancer has affected all of us in some way,” said Dr. Aishwarya Prakash, assistant professor of Oncologic Sciences, who works with the x-ray generator in her lab. “I chose this career path because I felt like something needed to be done in the area of research.”
Local and regional chefs participating in Celebrate Hope come from these venues: Dauphin’s, The Battle House Renaissance Mobile Hotel, Von’s Bistro, the Fairhope Inn, WIntzell’s, Naman’s Catering, Half Shell Oyster House, Chef Rob & Co., Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse, Aramark and Bake My Day. Wind Creek Casino & Hotel Atmore is the presenting sponsor.
Tickets for Celebrate Hope are $175 each and can be purchased online at usamci.com/celebratehope or by calling MCI Development at 251-460-6209.
