Who she is: As an Accountant III at MCI, Kristen Cleaves’ main objective each month is to prepare MCI’s detailed financial statements. She also analyzes General Ledger accounts for accuracy and makes adjusting entries when needed. MCI’s budget is a priority along with many other accounting functions in her day-to-day work.
Education: She graduated from the University of South Alabama (GO Jags!) in 2009 earning a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting.
Work History: Before joining the MCI team, she worked as an accountant for a mid-sized finance company. She was with that company for five years before joining MCI in January 2015.
What she says: “MCI is a fascinating place, with so many different things happening inside one building. Cancer is such a disheartening disease. I believe this is why MCI strives to be so wonderful. At MCI, patients are given hope and joy in the darkness and the best care possible -- hugs from Dottie; kind, caring, and passionate doctors, researchers, and clinicians; along with a whole host of supportive administrative staff making important things happen daily).”
Her favorite things: “The Good Lord, my family, and accounting. On multiple occasions, I’ve been called an accounting nerd and I’m okay with that! I guess I like driving pretty well, considering my daily commute from Jackson, Ala., is 1 hour 20 minutes each way.”
Family info: “My husband and I have been married for 13 years. We have been blessed with a large blended family consisting of five uniquely individual children, two beautiful grandchildren and two wild Miniature Schnauzers. As a family, we love to go camping, and we enjoy all of the activities surrounding camping (especially s’mores ). Time spent together, as a family unit, is near and dear to each of us.”
