April 21, 2016 - Dr. Russell to retire from MCI Radiation Oncology in May

Russell resized.jpgDr. John R. Russell, who has led Radiation Oncology at USA Mitchell Cancer Institute for six years, has announced his retirement, effective May 31. He serves as the Elsie Colle Chair in the Department of Radiation Oncology and as Professor of Interdisciplinary Clinical Oncology.

“Dr. Russell has been instrumental in our growth and success, and I know you will want to wish him the best in his retirement and future endeavors, and personally thank him for his many contributions to the MCI,” said Dr. Michael A. Finan, MCI director.

Dr. Russell was instrumental in moving translational research trials to the active clinical trial arena at MCI, Finan said. He also oversaw the implementation of CyberKnife, Tomotherapy and the 64-Slice PET/CT services.

His interests include the treatment of breast, head and neck, prostate and gynecologic malignancies. He leads an active prostate seed implant program at Mobile Infirmary and MCI.
