WHO HE IS: Assistant Professor of Interdisciplinary Clinical Oncology and Staff Medical Oncologist at USA Mitchell Cancer Institute. He holds a joint academic appointment in the Department of Medicine within the USA College of Medicine.
AREAS OF INTEREST: Dr. Khushman has developed a clinical interest in GI malignancies (pancreatic, hepatobiliary, colorectal, anal, gastric and esophageal) and Neuroendocrine tumors. His research efforts are focused in translational research on pancreatic cancers and other GI malignancies. Dr. Khushman is committed to providing his patients with the most cutting-edge and current evidence-based treatment in a compassionate and thoughtful manner. He sees patients at MCI in Mobile and at Monroe County Hospital in Monroeville.
WORK HISTORY: Dr. Khushman joined MCI in August 2015 after completing a fellowship in hematology oncology at the University of Miami Leonard Miller School of Medicine, where he explored the role of identifying potential predictive markers to mTOR pathway-targeted therapy in pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors. He also explored the role of neoadjuvant chemotherapy (FOLFIRINOX) in patients with locally advanced pancreatic adenocarcinoma .
WHAT HE LIKES ABOUT TREATING PATIENTS: "When I treat patients with cancer, I strive to provide hope. If feasible, I always aim for cure. That is the ultimate success,” he said. "In my research, I find exploring Mother Nature's secrets a fascinating and wonderful experience.”
EDUCATION: A native of Jordan, Dr. Khushman earned his medical degree from the University of Jordan in Amman and completed his residency in internal medicine at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, where he served as a chief medical resident.
MEMBERSHIPS: Dr. Khushman is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the European Society of Medical Oncology, the American Society of Hematology and the American Association for Cancer Research. Dr. Khushman is board certified in Medical Oncology, Hematology and Internal Medicine.
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES: Dr. Khushman has a passion for science, research and medicine. He also enjoys traveling and learning about new cultures.
