WHO SHE IS: Sabrina Kahn, P.A, is the only certified physician assistant among USA Mitchell Cancer Institute’s advanced practice providers in medical oncology.
Advanced practice providers, mostly nurse practitioners, see patients in the oncology clinic, infusion center, and hospitals. They order studies, perform procedures, including bone marrow biopsies, and administer chemotherapy and other treatments to help patients overcome their cancer and have a better quality of life. They strive to streamline the physicians’ care and improve efficiency in the practice while spending quality time with patients.
EDUCATION: Kahn received a master’s degree in medicine from the Trevecca Nazarene University Physician Assistant program in Nashville, Tenn., in August 2015. She also has a master’s degree in teaching and curriculum, which she uses in patient education.
WORK HISTORY: She gained experience in the medical field as a patient care technician in upstate New York. A year as a teacher equipped her to educate in a way that patients understand.
WHAT SHE SAYS: “Coming to work every day with patients fighting for their lives makes you rethink what you complain about. I have come to be thankful for every day I am healthy, and I am amazed by people’s resilience and strength.”
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES: Kahn enjoys walking her two Golden-doodles by the bay. She relaxes by kayaking, cooking, crocheting or reading a good book.
