Student Electives

 

NRY 460 - Clinical Outpatient Neurology

This is a four-week rotation in neurology, which provides advanced experience and clinical responsibilities in general neurology. Flexibility is provided to students to tailor their experiences in subspecialty areas, including stroke, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, movement disorders, muscle and clinical neurophysiology

Students may select four of the following one-week rotations:

  • Outpatient clinic
  • Inpatient consults
  • EMG/NCV
  • Epilepsy/EEG and evoked potentials
  • Vascular neurology
  • Multiple sclerosis/neuroimmunology
  • Child neurology
  • Movement disorders

Requirements: NRY 380 (third year neurology clerkship) or equivalent.

Visiting Students: A limited number of visiting students may take this elective, subject to approval by the Office of Student Affairs and the Chair of the Department of Neurology. Application forms are available online from the Office of Student Affairs. A prior neurology clerkship is strongly recommended and the application must include a cover letter providing reasons for taking this elective at USA, and whether the candidate is seeking a neurology career.

 

NRY 450 - Neurology Acting Internship

This is a four-week rotation in neurology, which provides advanced experience and clinical responsibilities in general neurology. Flexibility is provided to students to tailor their experiences in subspecialty areas, including stroke, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, muscle and clinical neurophysiology. The acting intern will take 5 overnight calls with the inpatient service at the USA Medical Center with an upper level resident and will function at the level of a first year neurology resident.

Students may select four of the following one-week rotations:

  • Epilepsy/EEG and evoked potentials
  • Vascular neurology
  • Multiple sclerosis/neuroimmunology
  • Child neurology
  • Movement disorders

NRY 444 - Neurology Research

This is a four week research experience involving either clinical, translational or basic research into aspects of neurologic disease. Topics and program for research experience must be arranged in advance with a neurology faculty preceptor and submitted to the Office of Student Affairs prior to enrollment.
