Research Focus:  My research focuses on how the aquatic pathogen Vibrio vulnificus and its virulence factors interact with the endothelium during systemic infections. V. vulnificus is found in brackish and salt water and is a cause of wound infections and opportunistic gastroenteritis. Infected individuals often develop a systemic infection, during which V. vulnificus contacts the endothelium. Little is known about how this pathogen and its virulence factors influence the endothelium and contribute to the progression and outcome of illness.
