Research Focus:

Our laboratory focuses on inflammasome and caspase-1 signaling in pulmonary endothelial cells. Caspase-1 regulates inflammatory responses such as cytokine maturation and inflammatory cell death. Therefore, the majority of research on inflammasome signaling is done in immune cells.

The pulmonary vascular bed plays an important role in regulating lung homeostasis. At the onset of my project, little was known about the biology of caspase-1 in pulmonary endothelial cells. Our laboratory has shown that caspase-1 activation in pulmonary endothelial cells has barrier protective properties. My overall research goal is to contribute to the understanding of the basic biology of caspase-1 in the non-immune endothelial cells. Specifically, I am interested in the role of cAMP signaling in caspase-1 activation in response to Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
