June 2016 - At our annual graduation party, Dr. David Benavidez (PGY2) received the Resident Teacher of the Year Award, and Dr. Al Clark received the Faculty Teacher of the Year Award.

May 2016 - Drs. W. Bogan Brooks, J. Luke Engeriser,  Sandra Parker, James Hart, Praveen Narahari, and Miriam Sevilla all received the Red Sash Award from the University of South Alabama College of Medicine's graduating class of 2015. Red Sashes are awarded by the Senior Class of the College of Medicine to the faculty members who have had the most meaningful input into their medical education.

April 2016 - Dr. J. Luke Engeriser (Program Director) was elected as sPresiden-Elect of the Alabama Psychiatric Physicians Association. This is a two year term. Dr. Engeriser previously served as the Treasurer of the APPA for four years and as Secretary the past two years. At this meeting, Dr. Mark Haygood was also elected as the Treasurer of the APPA.

June 2015 - At our annual graduation party, Dr. David Benavidez (PGY1) received the Resident Teacher of the Year Award, and Drs. Edgar Finn and William Billett received the Faculty Teacher of the Year Award.

May 2015 - Drs. W. Bogan Brooks, James Hart, William Billett, Severin Grenoble, Praveen Narahari, Sandra Parker, and Brad Sadler all received the Red Sash Award from the University of South Alabama College of Medicine's graduating class of 2015. Red Sashes are awarded by the Senior Class of the College of Medicine to the faculty members who have had the most meaningful input into their medical education.  

June 2014 -  Dr. Bogan Brooks (Medical Student Clerkship Director) was selected as this year’s faculty inductee to the USA Chapter of the Gold Humanism Society.  The Gold Humanism Society honors those who have demonstrated excellence in clinical care, leadership, compassion and dedication to service.

June 2014 - At our annual graduation party, Dr. Teresa Dolphin-Shaw (PGY2) received the Resident Teacher of the Year Award, and Dr. Bogan Brooks received the Faculty Teacher of the Year Award. 

June 2014 -  Dr. Ronald Franks (Acting Chair) was installed as the Medical Association of the State of Alabama’s president at the 2014 MASA Annual Session, which was held in Destin, Florida. Dr. Franks served as MASA president-elect this past year.

May 2014 - Dr. Christina Talerico (PGY1) was elected the American Medical Association (AMA) Women Physicians Section (WPS) Governing Council Resident and Fellows Section Representative.  This position, to be held for a two-year term, will officially commence upon the conclusion of the 2014 AMA Annual Meeting this June.  

May 2014 - Dr. J. Luke Engeriser was awarded the 2014 American Psychiatric Association Assembly Resident-Fellow Section Mentor Award at the APA Annual Meeting.   

May 2014 - Dr. Mark Haygood (PGY4) was elected the American Psychiatric Association Area 5 Early Career Psychiatrist (ECP) Deputy Representative at the APA Annual Meeting.  This is a four  year term, and Mark will serve our region as the ECP Deputy Representative for two years and as the ECP Representative the following two years.  Mark will be representing our region which includes Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Puerto Rico,  South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia (excluding suburban DC), West Virginia, and the Uniformed Services.

May 2014 - Dr. Candes Dotson (PGY2) was elected the American Psychiatric Association (APA) Area 5 Resident-Fellow Member (RFM) Deputy Representative at the APA Annual Meeting.  This is a two year term, and Candes will serve as the RFM Deputy Representative this year and as the RFM Representative next year.  Candes will be representing our region which includes Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Puerto Rico,  South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia (excluding suburban DC), West Virginia, and the Uniformed Services.

April 2014 - Dr. Sandra Parker (Vice-Chair) was installed as President of the Alabama Psychiatric Physicians Association.  Dr. Parker served as President-Elect of the APPA this past year.
