The University of South Alabama Medical Center, a Top Performer on Key Quality Measures by The Joint Commission, is a 406-bed acute care facility, which serves as the primary teaching hospital for the University of South Alabama Health System. It is the major referral center for southern Alabama, southern Mississippi, and portions of northwest Florida. The Medical Center is a level 1 trauma center and with numerous dedicated health centers. These include the Arnold Luterman Regional Burn Center, Certified Heart Center, AHA/ASA Certified Stroke Center, Digestive Health Center and Comprehensive Sickle Cell Disease Center. The USA Medical Center is the base hospital for categorical and preliminary residents with all of the hospital ward and ER rotations being centered here, and residents in the Combined Med/Peds program, spend a significant portion of the adult care training here.
USA Children's & Women's Hospital is a 152-bed facility, offering medical, surgical, and obstetric services.
Additionally, the Children's Evaluation Center is a 24-hour evaluation center.
Residents in the Combined Med/Peds program, alternate half of their training at USA Children's and Women's Hospital.
The Mastin Building, adjacent to the USA Medical Center, houses the Department of Internal Medicine and training program offices as well as faculty physicians' offices.
Clinics for Infectious Diseases, Nephrology, Sickle Cell Adult Care, Pulmonary Medicine (Pulmonary Hypertension Clinic), Rheumatology, Sleep Disorders and Traveler's Clinic are held on the first floor, Suite 102.
